Furano, Hokkaido, Japan
The following are photos I took in Furano, known as the navel or belly button of Hokkaido, at the end of July, 2004.

The area is best-known for lavender, but many other types of flowers are grown there as well. |
The first time I went was on a free tour for speakers of English. I was delighted that two of my friends, Sally and Michael, had joined the tour as well. |

On a different trip, a few days later, I had my own personal guide, Chip, a colleague at Hokkaido University of Education. He lives in the area so knows it well. (It was humid, and I was really sweating that day.) |
