On January 2-5, 2000, I took a trip to Lake Toya. When going down the mountain to Lake Toya by bus, one has a beautiful view of the lake with the island in the middle.

One can also see Mt. Usu, the volcano that engulfed the town when it erupted August 7th, 1977. At that time it blanketed 80% of Hokkaido with volcanic ash.

To get to Toya from Sapporo, one goes through Nakayama Pass where, on clear days, there's a view of Mt. Yotei, sometimes called the "Mt. Fuji" of Hokkaido.
