HOKKAIDO

Hokkaido is the northernmost island of Japan.

We have snow practically six months out of the year. For a fantastic slide show prepared by fellow Macuser, Scott Weber, see: Hokkaido Winter Movie.

Hokkaido is for nature-lovers all year round, whether it be the ice floes on the Sea of Okhotsk or Kushiro Marsh and the elegant tancho or Japanese cranes. For links to nature sites, historic sites, the Sapporo Snow Festival, and architecture in Hokkaido, see
Map of Hokkaido

Many of the historical buildings in Hokkaido have been preserved at the
Hokkaido Historical Village.

For an interesting experience, try listening to the
Sounds of Hokkaido.

You can see some of the natural beauty of Hokkaido in photos
of migrating geese from the Sendai Museum web site.
