LAKE TOYA

Hotel Nakanoshima, where I stayed, is owned by the parents of a friend, Mayumi Ano. During the 1977 eruption of the volcano, she and her family were practically the only people who didn't flee the area. Several reporters stayed at the hotel during that time.

I felt as though I was treated like a queen!

In the evening before going to bed, I relaxed in the hot springs bath (which was too steamy for me to get a photo of). One always washes oneself at a shower like this before entering a Japanese bath.
