One of my favorite places in Nakajima Park is the Japanese Garden, which first opened in 1963. The hours for the garden are limited, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but it offers a welcome respite for residents and visitors alike.
The pond in the garden is especially picturesque. Around the garden are 12 stone lanterns, including the ones seen here, modeled after noted examples around Japan.
In one area near the pond there's a stone garden.
If you're there are the right time, you can see the stones carefully swept.
The Japanese garden also has a small, almost hidden waterfalls.
